Electric11 completed a greenhouse power installation in Attleborough, providing a practical electrical supply from the property’s garage. The project added a weather-resistant double socket that can support suitable greenhouse equipment without relying on temporary extension leads across the garden.

To create a protected outdoor route, the team installed 2.5mm² steel wire armoured cable within 25mm conduit in a garden trench. The completed electrical work was tested, and an Electrical Installation Certificate was issued in line with BS 7671.

The Customer’s Greenhouse Power Requirements

The homeowner needed a permanent source of electricity inside the greenhouse. A fixed supply would make it easier to operate compatible lighting, propagators, small tools or other gardening equipment while keeping the garden free from temporary extension cables.

The new supply needed to run from a fused spur in the garage, cross an outdoor area and terminate at a socket suitable for the greenhouse environment.

Planning the Underground Cable Route

Outdoor electrical work requires a route that protects the cable from weather, gardening activity and accidental damage. Electric11 assessed the route between the garage and greenhouse before placing the cable within the garden trench.

The installation used 2.5mm² steel wire armoured cable, commonly referred to as SWA cable. A 25mm conduit added protection along the buried section of the route. The trench was then reinstated to leave the garden tidy once the cable was in position.

Installing the IP-Rated Greenhouse Socket

Inside the greenhouse, Electric11 fitted one double IP-rated socket outlet. Its weather-resistant enclosure provides a more suitable connection point for an outbuilding environment than a standard indoor socket.

The socket gives the homeowner two convenient outlets from one fixed location. Any equipment connected to the supply must remain within the circuit’s rated capacity and be suitable for its intended use.
