The project

The customer wanted a dedicated home charging point positioned on the garage, away from the main electrical supply at the house. Electric11 needed to connect the customer-supplied SolaX charger across a property with flint walls, gravel access and a separate garage building.

The recorded charger model belongs to SolaX’s single-phase 7 kW class. A unit of this size provides considerably faster charging than a standard domestic socket when the vehicle and electrical supply support the available rate.

The challenge

The charger position required a cable run of up to 15 metres from the main meter location. The route crossed the exterior of a traditional flint property, so the cable needed to remain secure without introducing an untidy or visually dominant installation.

The existing electrical equipment also required attention. Defective Crabtree Starbreaker MCBs were identified for replacement, while the new charging circuit needed dedicated residual-current and overcurrent protection together with surge protection.

The solution

Electric11 planned the work around the property layout and the equipment documented in the agreed scope.

Dedicated exterior cable route

The new cable was routed from the main supply position toward the garage. Fixings followed the lower section of the exterior wall where practical, helping the cable sit neatly against the textured flint surface before continuing to the charger location.

Customer-supplied SolaX charger

The SolaX X1-HAC-7P-E charger was mounted between the garage doors, creating an accessible charging position beside the driveway. The integrated cable can be stored around the unit when it is not connected to a vehicle.

Type A RCBO protection

A Type A RCBO was installed for the charging circuit. This protective device combines residual-current protection with overcurrent protection for the dedicated supply.

Surge protection

Electric11 added a surge protection device as part of the electrical work. The device helps protect connected equipment from transient overvoltage events affecting the installation.

Replacement Starbreaker MCBs

Defective Crabtree Starbreaker miniature circuit breakers were replaced while the electrical work was being completed. This addressed the documented protective-device issue alongside the charger installation.

The result

The customer now has a dedicated 7 kW-class EV charging point positioned conveniently on the garage. The new cable route connects the separate building to the main electrical supply while respecting the appearance of the flint exterior.

Dedicated RCBO and surge protection support the new charging circuit, and the defective MCBs recorded within the project scope were replaced. The completed setup provides a practical home-charging option without relying on a standard three-pin socket.

Supply and property assessment

The electrician reviews the existing supply, consumer unit, proposed charger position, parking arrangement and approximate cable-run length.

Clear quotation and installation plan

The charger specification, protective devices, cable route and any remedial electrical work are documented before installation begins.

Charger and dedicated circuit installation

The team installs the cable, circuit protection and charging unit, keeping exterior routing as secure and visually orderly as the property allows.

Verification and customer handover

The completed circuit receives the applicable electrical verification, and the customer is shown the charger controls and normal operating procedure. Relevant certification should be retained with the property records where supplied.
